Dr. Austin Humphries is President of Marine Market Systems. Dr. Humphries is a marine scientist specializing in sustainable fisheries management and coastal community resilience. With a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from Rhodes University (South Africa), and over 15 years of international experience, his research integrates ecological data with social and economic analysis to develop evidence-based solutions for complex marine resource challenges. Dr. Humphries' work spans tropical fisheries systems worldwide, from bioeconomic modeling of mud crab fattening in Micronesia to analyzing the impacts of distant water fleets on food security in developing nations. His current research examines how small-scale fishers in Vietnam are adapting to climate pressures while preserving their fishing heritage. As a Professor at the University of Rhode Island, Dr. Humphries has secured over $56M in research funding and published 60+ peer-reviewed articles. His approach emphasizes collaboration with fishing communities and policymakers to ensure research translates into practical, equitable fisheries management solutions that support both marine ecosystems and coastal livelihoods.

Identify unique to location marine biodiversity assets for promotion. Help identify threats and risks to those habitats, and develop conservation programs that tie directly to tourism development. Plans are designed to minimize habitat loss and alteration in coral reefs and associated ecosystems.
Provide advice and advocacy for communities and governments to develop their blue econimies as well as locally managed marine areas (LMMAs) and other resource conservation programs. Encourage and support community-based marine managed areas, in line with national policies for marine and coastal management, national or legislative frameworks or other measures
Develop scuba diving and photography guides, maps and other information to help raise awareness and drive sustainable tourism for marine conservation. Photograph marine assets in targeted locations to bring attention for conservation efforts.
MMS Works with marine communities to develop maps and species lists.
MMS Worked with USAID/Mozambique to develop the Marine Market Assessment, which helped drive over $100 million of new investment into the marine and coastal sector in Mozambique.
MMS worked with the Embassy of Norway and Biofund, a conservation trust fund in Mozambique, to develop an underwater exhibition entitled "Oceans Bring us Together" at the Museum of the Oceans from December 18 2022, to January 15, 2023.
MMS worked with the Ministry of Seas, Inland Waters and Fisheries in Mozambique as well as the National Administration for Conservation Areas and key NGOs such as Biofund, WCS and CTV, to produce a virtual exhibition of Mozambique's underwater world. All photographs were taken by MMS.
