Marine Market Development

Develop necessary market system services

MMS can:

  1. Help your community identify economic activities to promote economic development.
  2. Help define eco systems valuation and set up payment programs for ecosystem services.
  3. Help identify differentiators and attractions for target markets for your community.
  4. Develop products, such as maps, marine life ID cards and guides to help promote the location.  Specialized activities, such as photo contests, etc. will be developed according to unique characteristics of your coastal and marine community.  Article reefs, and benefits and impacts of artificial reefs can be considered.
  5. Help inventory marine life and diversity in your marine community, through photography, IUCN red list categorization, etc. as well as 3D maps of coral reefs, and compare over time for indicators of reef health and development.
  6. Help evaluate pressure on marine ecology resources and identify mitigation measures, for example through marine protected areas (MPAs) or other protected status.  This will involve mutually beneficial strategies to protect marine life, while at the same time ensure fishing communities can sustainably access fish stocks.  Local pressures such as overfishing and waste as well as global issues such as warming and bleaching.
  7. Help bring together communities around the marine economy to discuss benefits of proposed approaches and implement mutually beneficial solutions.
  8. Help advocate for necessary policy reform to implement strategies that are designed for your community.

Dive and Photo Guides

MMS worked with the Maputo Special Reserve, a marine protected area (MPA) in Mozambique, and economic actors wishing the MPA, to develop a dive and photo guide.

All photos and content were taken and developed by MMS.

The book helps to drive visitors to the MPA, helping to increase revenue to the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) for their park rangers monitoring the MPA as well as the numerous economic actors in the tourism industry depending on increased growth and revenue. The book is sold on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Diving-Ponta-Malongane-Mamoli-Mozambique/dp/B087616LHG)
